What most people do not know is that Oregon has a great heritage in the "GOLD RUSH" era. With the great yellow metal being found on all 4 sides of the state. Some area's a little richer than others, but never the less, there is a lot of gold to be found. Oregon is a RICH state with only about 10% of the gold being recovered during the gold rush days. With today's technology and environmental awareness this rich metal can be safely removed even by the weekend prospector. There are opprotunies to "pay to dig" to the south near Medford, and to the east in and around Sumpter. Today we have great organizations that offer area's all over the country where you can prospect as well as treasure hunt. The largest being GPAA (Gold Prospectors Association of America) which was founded in 1968 by George "Buzzard" Massie. They are dedicated to keeping gold prospecting alive. With so many great opportunities for the weekender, one will never be short of ideas for things to see and do in the Oregon outdoors. Come join your friends and neighbors in this great family activity "GOLD PROSPECTING" 12/30/2009 LRO
